It's You Chapter 11

I avoided DongHae for a while. I avoided KyuHyun's calls as well. I even ignored his apologetic texts. I didn't want anything to do with them anymore. I wanted Super Junior out of my life. I attended the fan club meetings, but what Super Junior did anymore didn't interest me. I knew that they weren't like that in real life anyway, all happy and smiling and joking.

March passed into April.

Somewhere in the second week of April, the new edition of the K-pop celebrity magazine came out. They were everywhere. Maybe it was because I never so much as glance at it when I walked past newsagents and bookshops that I missed the biggest story circulating among Super Junior's fans (also known as E.L.F.s). I didn't even notice when some girls in school started giving me dirty looks when I walked past them. I noticed the behind-hand-whispering though.
I wondered what I had done.

On April 19, a Thursday morning, at around 1.30 in the morning, I awoke to the sound of my cellphone ringing. I sleepily picked it up. "H-hello...?" I said, stifling a yawn.
"JaeHwa....!" HyunJae shrieked, and I heard her burst into tears. I shot up in bed, instantly alert.
"HyunJae! What's wrong? What's happened?" I said urgently.
"Some Super Junior members have been in an accident...!" she said hysterically.
"WHAT?!" I yelled out in disbelief. "Who... what... where..." My mind instantly turned to DongHae. "Who was involved?" I asked frantically. There was nothing but sobbing at the end of the line. "HyunJae! Calm down! Please tell me...!" I pleaded.
"I can't calm down...! EunHyuk's involved! You tell me how I can calm down!"
"EunHyuk..." I said blankly. "I'm so sorry HyunJae, but I have to know who else is involved!"
"He didn't say... he called me and said that he was in an accident and then the phone cut off. JaeHwa, please come with me to the hospital."
"And what am I going to tell my parents?"
"I don't know, tell them that one of your friends was involved in an accident or something, I'm coming to pick you up."
"What did you tell your parents?"
"That someone from school got involved in a car accident. My dad said he'll drop me outside and wait."
"Okay, I'll tell my parents that. Thank God your Dad's lenient."
I hung up and started shaking. What if DongHae was involved? And I'd been pretty distant from him since KyuHyun told me... that.
If he was hurt I'd never forgive myself.
---
"Wow look at all the reporters. Look like someone famous got hurt huh?" remarked HyunJae's dad as he drove us into the hospital parking lot.
"Yea, wonder who," I said. HyunJae wasn't saying anything. I guess she was too distraught.
"Just drop us off here Dad," she finally said, and we got out of the car.
"Don't be too long Hyunnie," said her Dad and she promised that she wouldn't be.
"How're we going to get to them with all these reporters?" I whispered to her as we shoved our way past them to get to the entrance.
"Don't worry, they're not allowed IN the hospital," she replied as we sped up the stairs. The nurse pointed the way and we rushed to the elevator. It didn't seem to be going as fast as I liked. When we finally reached the right floor, I ran down the corridor and rounded the corner.
The first thing that struck me was that there were only 4 figures sitting on the seats while a 5th one leaned against the wall. He spotted me and ran towards me.
The second thing that struck me was that the 5th figure was DongHae.
The third thing that struck me was his arms around me. I burst into tears.
"It's okay JaeHwa, it's okay," he whispered. "Everything's going to be alright."
---
HyunJae and I learned that EunHyuk, ShinDong, LeeTeuk and KyuHyun had been involved. EunHyuk and ShinDong were alright except for a few scratches and bruises. LeeTeuk was in the operating theatre now. So was KyuHyun. Both their conditions were unknown, but KyuHyun was unconcious when he was brought in.
I felt like I was going to be sick when DongHae told me about KyuHyun. The image of his wounded eyes came back to haunt me and I felt like a murderer. I wondered if this was my punishment. I vowed never to be mean to anyone ever again.
We had to leave before we were there for half an hour because the big boss himself, Lee Soo Man, founder of SM Entertainment, was on his way. I didn't want to let go of DongHae, and I wanted to share my misery with the others. SungMin was crying his eyes out. SiWon looked grim and pale and his shoulder was soaked from HyunJae's tears. RyeoWook looked strained and for once HeeChul was speechless. The others were coming, we had to go.
HyunJae pulled me and I reluctantly turned away.
---
"So how's your friend?" asked my parents when I returned.
"She's fine. Had a concussion, but just a few scratches and bruises, nothing too serious," I said. I was exhausted. I entered my bedroom and collapsed on the bed, not bothering to change into my pyjamas.

After four strained days where KyuHyun kept slipping in and out of conciousness, EunHyuk and ShinDong were both discharged from hospital, to HyunJae's intense relief. I still felt fearful for KyuHyun's life, especially since DongHae had said that he had turned mute from the shock. His hip was fractured, and so were his ribs, which caused pneumothorax, or collapsed lungs.
EunHyuk and ShinDong were discharged on the same day as MinYoung. She still didn't return to school though, but not all of us missed her.
One week later, on April 30, LeeTeuk was discharged. KyuHyun had been moved to a regular unit from the ICU, and no longer needed the support of the respiratory machine. I was so relieved.
I talked to DongHae everyday since the accident. I knew then that he meant alot to me, regardless of what KyuHyun had said. And I knew what I would have done if he had been killed in that accident.

April passed like a flash into May.

The new edition of the K-pop magazine was printed, and this time I decided to see what they had said about the accident. I opened it to the middle page and was shocked to see a profile view of my face, and the photograph of DongHae carrying me. The caption read "DongHae's mysterious girl." I scanned through the article, feeling panicky.
It said that I was 'mysteriously' there when MinYoung was found, and that I looked like the girl that DongHae was carrying. There was also a picture of DongHae supporting me into the ambulance. My heart thumped. The picture of me was so clear.
I wasn't to know the extent of the damage until the next day.

I went into school like normal, trying to ignore the stares and glares from the other girls. I greeted them as usual, but they only stared coldly back. I felt a bit isolated, until JunSu came over and started talking to me like normal. I felt grateful that he didn't care about Super Junior.
It wasn't until lunch that it happened.
I had just come out of the toilet and bent over to tie my shoelace. A pair of shoes came into my view. I looked up and got the shock of my life. MinYoung stood in front of me, flanked by her best friends HaNeul and SooKyoung. She was holding the entertainment magazine in her hand tightly. I stood up slowly.
"MinYoung... when did you get back?" I said.
"I've been back for a long time Lee JaeHwa," she snapped at me. Her eyes flashed crazily at me and I got the feeling that she wasn't entirely sane. I looked around for a way to escape but couldn't fine any. I curse myself for choosing the most secluded toilet in school.
"That's great," I said. "I'd love to catch up, but I've got to get back to my stuff MinYoung. Nice to see yoou're alright." I tried walking past her but she caught my arm and pulled me back, pushing me against the wall. She came closer and put her face close to mine.
"No one is ever going to take DongHae from me, JaeHwa. NO ONE!" she shrieked. "Especially not you!" She slapped me hard and I fell to the ground. I felt something warm on my face and knew that my nose was bleeding. At that moment, JunSu rounded the corner.
"JUNSU!" I yelled. "Get help! Get a teacher!" He looked around, and his eyes widened at the sight of my blood. He turned and ran in the direction of the teacher's office, and MinYoung screamed at her friends to get him. They set off. It was just me and her. I tried getting up, but she pushed me back down and out her foot on my stomach.
"Don't think you're going to get away with it. By the time he comes back, you'll be dead, Lee JaeHwa. Dead!" she laughed and I heard the hysterical note in her voice. Her eyes wer glowing eerily. "Then DongHae and I will be together forever."
"Y... you're deluding yourself MinYoung," I whispered. I couldn't breathe properly through my streaming nose.
"Shut up!" she screamed savagely at me.
Her first kick sent a ripping pain through my side.
The second one made me cough up blood.
The third one made me black out.
